#FF20 The Orphanage follows an Afghan boy forced into a Russian-run Orphanage in the 1980s.

It switches between slice of life moments, surviving with bullies, to fantastical musical and action numbers, without breaking a sweat.

At times delightful, and others brutal.

#FF20 Da 5 Bloods is a solid film about friendship, ageing, trauma, and what motivates us.

The central cast are great, funny and well-fleshed out. The peripheral characters less so.

Longer than it needs to be, but not aggrevatingly so. A solid film.

#FF20 The Banker is a solid, historical drama about two of the earliest Black Americans to own a bank.

The core cast, Mackie in particular, are good, the pacing works well, and you'll be charmed by how they figure out how to beat a system that is against them.

#FF20 Krabi, 2562 is a distant look at tourism and Thailand, against the backdrop of advertising, mysticism, and an unusual woman.

It sounds better than it is. Lingering shots of the environment are beautiful but boring. Nothing really goes anywhere, it's more about mood.

I can’t accept the awful dialogue, empty action, mountains of cliched plotting, awful characters, exposition, languid pacing etc.

If you’re going to overproduce a heist movie, do it in 90 minutes. Not 150.

#FF20 Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is an almost entirely forgettable comedy.

The idea is fine, but there are too few laughs and too many things we've seen before for it to be lasting.

Dan Stevens and Graham Norton have the best moments.

#FF20 The Ghost Who Walks follows a recently released convict trying to reconnect with his family, and avoid a hit.

It looks good, particularly the lighting and framing in action sequences, but it doesn't deliver. The wider cast are not great, and the writing is cliched.

#FF20 The Decline sees a group of survivalists deal with a grim accident.

A little slow in the last third, but tensions are built up well. Some nice shots, but the camera occasionally hints at action that isn’t followed through.

#FF20 All Day And A Night is a fairly generic take on poverty forcing people into crime, and that cycle repeating.

It's a worthwhile subject, but there's nothing here you haven't seen before. Jeffrey Wright is very good. The direction is fine. It looks okay

Janky editing, contrived story, terrible dialogue, and over the top acting. It reminds me of an awful Seven remake.

#FF20 Uncorked is a light drama about a man who wants to be a Master Sommelier, but whose dad wants him to continue the family business,

The tension is well set-up, it's beautifully shot, great dialogue, and charming.

An easy watch, that's got heft at the right times. Very good

#FF20 Swallow is the story of a woman who, frustrated with being a trophy wife for a rich family, is compelled to swallow potentially harmful objects.

Hard to watch at times, but with some powerful messages. A little slow at times, but very watchable.

#FF20 Sea Fever sees a scientific expedition on a boating vessel go awry, as they discover something infectious.

Prescient, beautifully shot, fantastically acted and scripted. The whole cast put in solid performances for well-rounded characters.

#FF20 Sergio is the surprisingly good story of a UN diplomat negotiating various dilemmas while falling in love.

Charming throughout, the lead performances make this. The fragmented structure initially grates, but comes together well.

#FF20 Selah And The Spades is a reasonably stylish teen drama, with a focus on factionalism and competition.

Cut in a slightly hazy, dreamy style, while at school, reality bites hard when Selah is with her mother.

#FF20 The Lovebirds is a light-hearted, late-night, comedy about a couple breaking up... and then witnessing a murder.

The two leads are fantastic, the pace keeps up throughout, and the jokes are well-pitched. Some fun surprises throughout, but a slightly cliched end.

#FF20 Bloodshot is the kinda of film that I should've known better than to watch.

Some of the early action is better than I expected, but quickly degenerates into messy cuts and CG messes.

The motivations are pretty weak, as is much of the back-half of the film.

A fairly boilerplate, small, action-thriller, with a washed out colour palette and characters that you’ve seen before.

#FF20 Ultras is a look at the violence, tradition, and tribalism at the heart of football in Italy.

By focussing on both new recruiters who want in, and an older man who mostly wants out, it paints a full picture.

#FF20 The Platform is an allegorical horror that feels quite close to home.

Set in a prison where the lower floors eat the scraps of the upper floors, the message seems simple; but it frequently shifts perspective.

#FF20 The Occupant is a solid thriller, taking a (gentle) swing at conspicuous consumption.

Some neat shots and direction, but it's the lead performance that holds everything together as we begin to see his darker side.

Not amazing, but reliable and engaging throughout. Watch.

#FF20 Vivarium is an interesting rye, light-horror about a young couple moving to the suburbs... without really planning on it.

The allegory is obvious but not offputting. The performances are solid. The scripting fun.

The film is a good length, ratching things up slowly. See!

#FF20 Lost Girls puts the right perspective on a series of murders: that of the victims and those left behind.

Amy Ryan is fantastic as a struggling mother, who loses her somewhat estranged daughter.

Beautifully shot and paced. Difficult, but worthwhile.

There is no charm. There are no stakes. The film is about nothing. It doesn’t do or say anything.

#FF20 System Crasher is a difficult drama about a young girl, whose trauma has made it so she can't interact peacefully within the system around her.

Incredible performances, on a tough subject matter.

Clearly made on a budget, but the effects work in context. The world is interesting and built without much exposition. The cast are fine for what they need to do.

#FF20 Coffee And Kareem is a bit of a mixed bag. Ed Helms is an ineffectual cop teamed up with a foulmouthed kid, who witnesses a murder.

Fairly one note after that, but with the best gags coming from the supporting cast.

If you want cliched, stilted & expositional dialogue in every scene, overwrought music, and cheesy plotting, this is the movie for you.

For much of the film, it's dialogue-light. A great exploration of show-don't-tell, with some really neat shots.

You've seen much of this before and done better (Wolf of Wall Street), but it's stylish in places, with some striking colour choices.

#FF20 Extraction is a fast-paced action film, where Chris Hemsworth has to rescue a child from kidnapping.

While the plot is so-so and it's a little underbudget, the action and fight choreography is top-notch. The extended chase in the middle had me giggling in places.

Elisabeth Moss is great, as ever, as the abused victim of the titular character.

I'm not sure how you get lacklustre performances out of Anne Hathaway and Willem Defoe, but here they are.

Solid performances throughout, but Emile Hirsch is great as a paranoid father protecting his daughter.

All I'll say is this is the best X-Men movie that you haven't seen. Very good.

The training montage in the middle is a little overlong, and there's plenty of cliche to go around, but it mostly just gets on with things.

#FF20 Underwater is the Alien remake that no-one asked; from the characters to the visuals, this is Alien.

The setting means that some shots are overly murky, to it's detriment, but it mostly works.

It starts fast and wastes no time. Forgettable, but fine.

#FF20 Horse Girl is an odd film about a woman who is... different, and follows her as her life goes out of control.

Alison Brie is fantastic as the lead: switching between homely and quiet, to obsessed and frantic as necessary.

Go in without knowing much. A solid indie film.
